21 Proven Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website

21 Proven Ways to Drive Traffic: As a marketer, you know you’re one when you’re sitting in traffic on the highway, it’s bumper to bumper, and all you can think about is “Why can’t I drive traffic to my website like this?”

In case you have experienced difficulty driving traffic to your website, you are not alone. 63% of content professionals report difficulty finding sufficient staff skilled in content strategy, which is one of the main factors driving website traffic, according to 2020 research conducted by Content Marketing Institute.

When you’re writing a new blog post, posting on social media, and strategizing for a new email campaign, it’s difficult to track what is and is not driving traffic to your website.

1. Target topics that are easy to rank to increase search traffic

As a crucial component of SEO campaigns, keyword research enables you to identify topics that will increase your website’s visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs). Keyword research is the cornerstone of any effective SEO strategy. Determine your page’s primary and secondary keywords so you can create content that attracts more visitors. A primary keyword is the term for which you wish to rank, while a secondary keyword is a related phrase that provides additional coverage and supports your primary keyword.

Drive Traffic to Your Website

In order to find primary and secondary keywords, utilize a keyword research tool, such as the Keyword Planner. For example, if your company sells a product for lifecycle marketing, enter “lifecycle marketing” into the tool, select your location, and click “Search.” The tool will then provide you with a list of suggested keywords based on the main keyword. An effective primary keyword should be relevant to your business or the topic you wish to cover, as well as having high search volume.

Adding your primary keyword to the tool, clicking “Search” again, and selecting the “Related” match modifier will provide you with a list of related keywords with similar search engine results. In order to rank well for a large number of keywords, ensure that each piece of content targets a primary keyword and multiple secondary keywords.

You can see the same results if you can rank high on Google. However, you cannot just select any random topic-you need to write about topics people are searching for.

Here’s how to find them:

  1. Go to Keywords Planner
  2. Enter a relevant keyword
  3. Go to the Matching Terms report

As many of the keywords you see will be very competitive, we will use the “Keyword Difficulty (KD)” filter in order to narrow the results down to those that are relatively easy to rank for.

Select the results that are relevant to your website by eyeballing the results.

2. Promote your brand by appearing on podcasts

Google is the easiest way to find podcasts to appear on.

You should look through the results and select the most relevant ones. Then, locate the host’s email address and pitch yourself as a guest.

By going to Keyword Explorer and filtering for results with “episode” in the referring page title, you can find all the podcasts a particular podcast guest has appeared on.

3. Enhance the ranking of existing content by filling in content gaps

The content gap occurs when users search for something on the web and do not receive the results that they were expecting. Filling in content gaps can help your content rank higher by improving its comprehensiveness and relevance to search engine algorithms.

The following steps can be taken to improve the ranking of existing content by filling in content gaps:

Increase organic traffic, click-through rates, and conversions.

You need to ensure that you have targeted the right keywords with the right user intent.

Find topics that your competitors do not cover, or gaps in their content that you can fill.

Fill in the gaps by identifying them

Performing a content gap analysis can also assist you in diversifying your topics and avoiding publication of similar content.

4. Traffic from Reddit by sharing barebones posts

As Reddit has over 330 million monthly active users, it would seem a no-brainer to promote your business there. However, Reddit is anti-marketing.

Redditors will downvote, delete, or ban you if they detect even the slightest hint of self-promotion.

The Reddit audience prefers helpful content. Spammers are the only ones who dislike it, so if you want to advertise on Reddit, follow Tim’s example.

Make sure you take your best post, remove all internal and external links, and share it on a relevant subreddit. Leave only one link back to your original post at the end. Make sure the post provides value on its own, regardless of whether people click on the link.

5. Collaborate with other brands to reach their audiences

This webinar was jointly hosted with Buffer, a social media scheduling tool that is non-competitive and targets the same audience.

In the weeks leading up to the webinar, both brands heavily promoted it on social media. After the webinar, Buffer published a blog post summarizing the presentation, while we uploaded the recording to YouTube and uploaded the presentation slides to SlideShare.

Find opportunities to partner with brands that solve similar problems for similar audiences. This will give you both access to a new audience.

6. Target Keywords that Trigger Featured Snippets

In Google’s search results, featured snippets provide a short, quick response to the searcher’s query and appear at the top of the results page.

In addition, winning a featured snippet is a great way to generate more exposure, clicks, and traffic. Your page will rank at the top, even above the first organic result (also known as “position 0”).

7. Boost your click-through rate with compelling title tags and meta descriptions

In browser tabs and search results, title tags determine the title of a webpage.

There is a meta description on each page of a website that provides a brief summary of the content and may be used by search engines to create snippets (the descriptive text in a search result).

Google’s title tag and meta description might look like this:

In addition, both elements can have a significant impact on the likelihood that a searcher will click on your result.

The purpose of these elements is to aid searchers in understanding what your page is all about, and to convince them to click through. Click-through rates (CTRs) measure the effectiveness of these elements.

When writing title tags and meta descriptions, it is a good idea to follow the following best practices:

  • Be sure to include your target keyword in both elements
  • You may want to use a question, a list, or a how-to guide as your title tag
  • Provide a summary of the main benefit of the page in the meta description
  • Your title tags and meta descriptions should be tested and optimized

8. With FAQ sections, you can rank for more long-tail keywords

It is common for people to have numerous related questions when they are researching a topic. You are likely to answer most of these questions. However, there may be a few that are difficult to answer naturally.

If you add a FAQ section at the end of your article, that may help your content rank for more long-tail keywords and increase traffic from search engines.

9. Use URLs that are short and clear.

Use short, detailed URLs for your pages. This is one of the easiest SEO tips you can use.

A URL is the address that shows up in a browser for a website. Google can use it to figure out what the page is about.

Using short, detailed URLs can also make the experience better for users, which could help your SEO even more.

Here are four things that you should always do:

  • Do not use underscores (_), spaces, or any other letters to split words. Instead, use hyphens (-).
  • Don’t use capital letters; use regular letters instead.
  • Do not use words that are not needed, like stop words, articles, conjunctions, prepositions, or verbs.
  • Don’t use too much of your goal term.

10. Ensure that your core web vitals are improved for a better user experience

Core Web Vitals are metrics that check how fast, quick, and stable a site is. Some of the most important ones for SEO are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Input Delay (FID), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). Google has said that Interaction to Next Paint (INP) will take the place of FID in March 2024. INP will show how long it has been since a user interacted with the page and when the next visual change will happen.

If your Core Web Vitals number is low, your rivals may be able to offer better user experiences. The Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console or the “Core Web Vitals” report in Site Audit can help you check your site’s Core Web Vitals.

11. Smartly use both internal and external links.

Adding both internal and external links can help your SEO a lot. When you have internal links that lead to other pages on your site, it makes sense to Google and your users. They give your pages more power and importance, which keeps users on your site longer.

When you use external links to go to other sites, you build trust and authority by citing other reliable sources. By linking users to similar resources, they add more worth and context to what the reader is reading. It can also be helpful to build partnerships and a good name by recognizing and appreciating other sites.

To make internal and external links work better, use anchor text that is informative and relevant, link to high-quality, relevant pages, and don’t use too many or the same links over and over. This method can help your content look both real and fake.

12. Make TikTok videos

There are more than 1 billion users of TikTok, so you have to be on it, right? Most companies, though, haven’t because they think it’s just a place for Gen Z to watch stupid dance videos.

That’s what most people thought about YouTube when it first came out… Take a look at where we are now.

TikTok works best when you use it every day.

13. Improve pictures, graphics, and other visual materials

Improving your content and SEO by optimizing pictures and other visual assets is very important. To improve, use high-quality pictures that are related to your topic and audience, rename the images with your keyword or phrase of choice, add alt text to make them easier to read, and add image captions to give them more information.

Smaller picture files will make the page load faster and give users a better experience. Pick the right file type based on the quality and goal of the file. Adding pictures to your website will help Google find it faster.

Images that are adaptable should be used on a range of devices and screen sizes. Use lazy loading to make pictures that aren’t being seen by the user take longer to load. Store items and recipes that use schema code will do better in search engine results. By using these SEO tips, you can get people to interact with your site more and make it run better.

14. Utilize what you have already created by repurposing it

Instead, use what you already have to make it useful to different groups of people based on custom and to fit the needs of different advertising platforms. When you think about how much time and work goes into making content, reusing your best work to reach more people doesn’t seem like much extra work.

15. Get more people to visit your website by “hunting” it on Product Hunt.

That’s right, Product Hunt (PH) is like Reddit for new products. You may have heard of Zapier, Slack, and Notion, but they all got their start there. It’s not just for one-off items either. You can put your new tools, features, or “content products” (like a course) on Product Hunt.

To do well on Product Hunt, you can’t just “submit and pray.” The work you do before you start is the most important part. You need to build a group of people who will support your offering.

This is why having a social following is helpful. Your following on X/Twitter (#8), LinkedIn (#10), or TikTok (#11) can help your PH start. You can also build social capital by joining groups for startup people, such as Indie Hackers.

16. Improve the structure of your website.

Website layout is the way the pages on your site are organized, linked, and created. The structure of a website is very important for both SEO and user experience.

Why these three things are so important:

  • It helps search engines find your site’s pages and list them.
  • Internal links, it helps spread link authority around your site.
  • It makes UX and interaction better by making it easy for users to find what they need.
  • The “Internal Linking” report in Site Audit is a quick way to check your site’s structure.

In the Site Audit tool, the “Internal Linking” report Fix any problems, mistakes, or warnings right away to keep your site’s navigation from getting worse.

Don’t forget to follow these best practices for site structure:

  • Before you build your site, plan its structure so that the access menu is clear and easy to use.
  • Any page on your site should be easy to get to with four clicks or less if you use a flat site design.
  • Use internal links to help people and search engines find more of your content. Use bookmarks to make it easy for people to find their way around your site.
  • Sitemaps in HTML and XML let people and search engines see how your site’s pages are linked.

17. You can reach new people by sending your information to niche-related newsletters.

Today’s digital world is very competitive, so it’s important for anyone who makes content online to find and keep new viewers. One good way to reach new people is to send your content to emails that are related to your niche.

This will help you reach more people and show your content to people who are already interested in what you have to say. You should look for magazines that are made for people in your area now that you know it.

Look for emails that fit your content and viewers on search engines, social media sites, and groups for your business. Look for newsletters that have a lot of viewers, good material, and a reputation for including a range of views and points of view.

Set yourself up to rank for area searches by making a Google Business Profile.

You’ll want to rank for local search terms, especially the “map pack” search results, if you serve people in your area.

To get on the “map pack,” you need to claim your Google Business Profile (GBP) and make it better. What you put in your business page can appear in Google’s web search results and Google Maps after you claim it.

18. Create groups of topics

The pages in a topic cluster all talk about the same main subject or a linked subtopic. They help you go into detail about a big topic and show search engines and users that you are an expert in the field.

There are two main parts to a topic cluster:

  • It’s a basic page that leads to other pages that go into more detail.
  • Group pages that talk about specific subtopics linked to the main topic and connect to the main page.

Making topic groups is done in four main steps:

  • Pick a central theme that is important to your business and your customers.
  • Do keyword study to find cluster page subtopics and keywords that are connected to them.
  • Make a center page that tells you about the main topic in a broad sense and links to cluster sites.
  • Make cluster pages that go into more detail about certain subtopics and link back to the main page.

19. Add FAQs to Articles

Google’s SERP has a part called “People also ask” (PAA) that shows questions (and quick answers) that are connected to the searcher’s main question.

For “interior design styles” question, look in the “People also ask” area.

There is value in these questions because they are

  • What people really want to know
  • Adding FAQs for PAA questions to stories is one of the best and most useful SEO tips because they are easy to rank for and only take a few lines to answer.

Do a Google search for the term that the article is trying to rank for and then look through the “People also ask” area.

Here’s an example for the word “what is a url slug.”

Plug your term of choice into the term Magic Tool and click on the “Questions” tab.

You’ll see a list of questions that have your seed phrase in them.

A list of question words that are tied to “interior design”. Then, look over the questions and add any that are important to your piece.

There should be a good title for each question (H2, H3, H4, etc.). And try to give a clear, short answer to each question in just a few lines.

Adding well-thought-out FAQs like these to your articles can help you get more visitors and possible customers.

Finding your old content, optimizing it, and making it look new again is one of the fastest ways to boost your SEO.

Because old material is easy to find and use.

It’s already on your page. It has already brought in some visitors, backlinks, and influence. You already have information and feedback on how well it works.

A few easy changes will make it better.

21. Use the rule E-E-A-T

E-E-A-T stands for experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. These are all very important for SEO, even though they aren’t direct ranking factors.

This is because Google wants to rank material that is trustworthy and of good quality.

Especially when it comes to things that affect people’s health, happiness, safety, or money.

What are some ways you can use E-E-A-T in your writing?
